I’m visiting Melbourne for a few days with an overseas friend who likes museums, and we’d like to know a few we can visit. Preferably ones that are close to public transport, eg trains or trams.

try going to the old melborne gaol, we went and had a great time, its a bit spooky and atmospheric, but its full of interesting things to see, and we got a tram to just near by, they will point out on the tram which one do get of at
There is the immigration museum on flinders street. There is also the melbourne museum.
Melbourne Museum is walking distance from Parliament
Train Station.
Scienceworks is great too, but not sure of the public transport to that.

Anakassandra is quite good, altho not listing all museums on the countryside as well that you friend may find very interesting.
