Paranoid, Insecure Coworker?

I work with a woman, well, two actually, that I am constantly getting into small issues with. The problem is that they’re both insecure & paranoid. I don’t really know why. They assume that everything I say…has a hidden meaning. It doesn’t. What I say, is what I mean. We’ve all had a pow-wow about personalities & stuff, and have all agreed to work on how we deal with others. I have tried very hard on my end to understand my coworkers, but I don’t think that they are doing the same, and so there continue to be problems. How do I handle a situation like this? We are not the same ethnicity…could this have something to do with it? I’m so confused and frustrated.

Best Towns With Native American Ppl?

I am still researching where I want to settle down after graduating college. Obviously, job opportunities are a must, I’ll be an RN/BSN, and I have a school age son- single mom icon sad Best Towns With Native American Ppl?
I am trying to get ideas, find towns close to bigger native amerian communities- in particular, Cherokee and Blackfeet, since I am mixed blood of these two.
I do love chicago and new england, but I’d like to be close enough to participate and attend pow wow’s and tribal events and what not.
Any help?

What To Do When Your Mother’s Anger Toward Your Father Is Taken Out On You?

For over 30 years my mother has treated me like I was the one who abused and mistreated her. My sisters and I were victims of a dysfunctional house hold due to our father’s unstable mental state. Eventually they were divorced (31 years ago) and she began to treat me (her son) like I was the one who wronged her. As of this very day, she still looks at me as someone who is an enemy and I’ve tried talking and building a relationship with her but she is hell bent on making me pay the time for my father’s crime.
I am over 40 now and it’s gotten no better. She’s getting along in age and her health is deteriorating. She’s always sick. I tried to explain to her that (as her only son) we really need to have an open and honest pow-wow and TRY to build a real mother/son relationship before one of us is standing over a casket unable to express ourselves. She will not even try to hear me. In her eyes, I am my father. She fails to understand that I didn’t choose my father … she did. Any answers

Native American Indians: Help Me Out (natives Only)?

I’m sure you’ve all done this before (or have experienced the same situations), so let’s go off on a tangent with :
“We know we’re Native American when”
1. People refer to you us as “the ones with the feathers, not the dots”
2. People think we’re poor, drink alcohol 24/7/365, worship fire, and that teepees are the only form of traditional native housing
3. People ask us if we’re Arabic, Latino, Italian, Filipino…..
4. People mock our cultures every time Halloween rolls around
5. People come up to us and say “How” and we say “why”
6. Every white person is “part Cherokee” at the pow-wow, but any other time, is 100% white and proud of it
7. People think that if we’re not traditional in religion, we’re not “real” Indians
8. You’re been asked repeatedly “are you a real-life Indian?”
9. People think we get free college just because we’re Indian.
10. You always hear “did indians or black people suffer more” and you think its stupid because you can’t measure suffering on a scale and our history isn’t a game show called “minority feud”
11. You love Keith Secola’s “Indian Car”
12. We’re tired of hearing about Night At The Museum and Twilight, and you don’t give a damn about Taylor Lautner
13. We have to be careful who we date or marry because the person might be our cousins
So those are just a few, what can you guys add to it?
Also, what nation are you from?
I’m biracial-half black, and I’m with the Eastern Band of Cherokee Indians in North Carolina
