Did Colin Powell Resign Because He Was Tired Of Bush Calling Him Pow-wow??? Or Tired Of All The Lies???

I used to like Powell. Even after he had to make that embarassing speech before the UN.
But he has not stepped up to the plate on honesty issues.

I fully agree with your comment, a four star general who was used and abused by his president and will not stand up and tell the truth about the concocted evidences against Iraq to justify the ego driven invasion.

I think he was an honest man who was used by the administration. And then when he realized it, he was bound by his own concepts of honor and loyalty to stand by the president.
I do think that the reason he resigned was because he totally disagreed with the Iraq war and the lead-up to it. And I think his loyalty still keeps him from speaking up.

Colin Powell was asked to resign by Bush, and recently admitted that this was true.
I’m surprised that none of y’all know that. some good answers out there, but nobody seems to know this, and it is certainly no secret.
Yes, he did run afoul of Cheney and Rumsfeld, and (being half -Jew myself, I’m allowed to say this) a couple of right-wing Jews in Defense and State. (read the late Molly Ivans’ excellent book, “Bushwhacked.” A masterpiece.)
Powell has remained surprising positive about President Bush, all things considered. He is a class act.
Am enjoying the debate between Larry Curly and Moe on this one—y’all crack me up.

I used to like him as well. Bush used him terribly and destroyed his credibility with that little speech to the UN.
He probably just got sick of all the lies.

Powel wanted to crush the Iranians right away and he saw the Bush was going about it all wrong. That is why so many left his cabinet.

Larry, I’m gonna poke you in the eye! Powell is one of the most honest politicians around. He certainly did not resign because of name calling or lying. He was in government a long time and perhaps it was his time to return to the private sector.

Powell resigned because he was made irrelevant by Cheney and Rumsfeld. They both worked to withhold important intelligence from the State Department. Powell was left to wander the world in the dark and everyone else knew it. He lost a lot of his respect because he was so comically limited in what he could do.

Colin Powell is a rarity. He’s a honest individual who cannot handle delivering deceit to the American people. He got out because of his fine character, and his sense of duty to the American people just couldn’t find common ground with the Bush/Cheney tower of lies and spin. Bush asked him to resign because he wasn’t ready to be a “yes” man and he couldn’t stand by and watch this debacle without speaking his mind. Why hasn’t he come forward yet? For the same reasons, and it gives me even greater respect for him. His sense of military duty is so strong that even though he disagrees with the Administration and probably knows where many of the bodies are buried, he cannot speak against his Commander in Chief and keep his honor intact. Look out when Bush leaves office, I believe we will hear some startling facts come from this man, and many things about that time period will be revealed to the American people.

he was afraid that if it comes out what they do in the white house he would have to go to jail.
    my believe

Maybe he got tired of all the hate coming at him from the leftist haters in the media and elsewhere.

  • Floyd G:

My belief on how he left isn’t important. He left for his reasons, which are his own. However, I tend to believe that he felt powerless in the vast shadows of Cheney and Rumsfeld.
Colin Powell is an honorable man and deserves respect for the jobs he did on our behalf.

  • Henry VIII:

General Powell is an honorable man. I believe the primary reason he resigned is he did not want to be a part of the BS and lies of the Bush Administration any more.
