Have You Ever Participated In A Wagon Train?

When I was a kid, I used to go with my grandparents. What fun it was! As an adult, I have only been able to join up for a couple of days. There is one this summer I really want to go on, though. It is is to commemorate the 100th aniversary of the Fort Pierre-Deadwood Trail in South Dakota. From what I hear, there are many historic sites along the trail. The Cheyenne River Sioux Tribe is putting on a pow wow, and landowners have given easements and some have mowed so you can see the old wagon wheel ruts. I really want to go, the boss says he can’t spare me (grrr-still working on this) and I was just wondering what wagon train stories you have! Any honey wagon drivers out there?

My mother and stepfather were active wagon trainers for a few years. The group still camps at her place on their way from Bloomington IN to the Ohio River camp.
Their wagon had quite the set up for sleeping and camping. I’d like to have one when we retire and have time to go do this stuff.

Yes for a few years I rode with a group that did the wagon trains on a regular basis. Mind you they were not the biggies that you are talking about, but never-the-less…it was with wagons, yes there was a covered wagon too…there were out riders too. It was fun but my one horse was a basket case with the teams and wagons…

Good luck getting approval from Fritz to go on it, hes so stinking strict.
I did go on that one, went with friends about 10 yrs ago. I rode a horse I had that was PETRIFIED of wagons. He never got used to them the whole time.
On day three he rope burned himself and was out of commission the rest of the ride so we quit.
Its a great ride, but I just don’t know if you can get past the Fritz road block. I love the guy by my gosh, he’s really a tough old bird. If you get in, let me know and have a great time!!
Ohhhhhhhhh I got confused with Days of 76, soooo sorry girl!!
So all that is for that wagon train ride. ooooops
Anyway, have a great time on yours, thats too cool i hope you get to go!!!!

This has always been a dream of mine. I would just call in sick if I were you and go for it! Maybe some day when my kids are older if they ever go thru the Northeast again I will do it.
