ü       Once the knot is tied, place a tiny dot of glue to make it hard and cut the excess thread with a scissors or nail clipper.

Question by Akumi: Can a glass bead survive in a kiln?
I am making a clay dragon and am trying to come up with cool detailing effects. I was thinking of using small, red glass beads for the eyes, but I am unsure if the beads will melt, crack, etc.
In order to ensure that the beads stay in place, they would have to be placed into the clay while it is still moist and then would be required to run through the initial baking of the clay, and then the baking of the glaze.
What kinds of beads could I use?
Are there any other suggestions?

placing the beads after firing is not an option, even with an imprint. the clay shrinks once fired.

if you got it from a craft store ask a worker. my craft store person knows what kinds so explode and she checks the back of the package.

Question by Relationship_issues: Hi. I have a question about wedding guest books. I had seen in another question (that I can’t find now) the
idea of using aquarium glass beads or stones and having the guests sign a piece and then the stones can be use in a vase as part of home decor. I thought the idea was great! The poster didn’t give a website or store to go to, so I went on my own to Michaels. The store had a selection of glass stones, but I don’t think you would be able to write on them.

Does anyone know where or what I should look for in this type of product (glass stones) to be of something the guests could write on?

And what kind of pen / marker should I use?

(The wedding is not until May 2009, but I am trying to get the little details taken care of first.)

Our colors are white, ivory and burgandy (dark red).

For pens – use a fine tip Sharpie

You could use pieces of granite or alabaster to write messages on. Maybe you could contact a company that makes granite counter-tops and see if they have small pieces that they otherwise throw away. Glass stones – try an aquarium store. Look for companies that sell glass to people who make stained glass windows. Glass blowers may also be able to help you. Also, try the chemistry department if you have a larger university nearby. Many of them employ glass blowers – they are a cool bunch of folks. (Two universities that I know for a fact have glass blowers in their Chemistry Departments are University of Alabama and University of South Florida). They may be willing to make “stones” of glass to your specifications.
